HOMEOPATHY AND COVID-19
The COVID-19 Pandemic has been one of the most difficult health care crises that has affected humanity in recent decades. An estimated 20 million lives have been lost globally. While the World Health Organization acknowledges the use of complementary medicine such as homeopathic medicine globally, it does not recommend homeopathy to treat people with COVID-19, arguing that it is not an evidence-based medical practice.
REDUCED MORBIDITY
A recent placebo-controlled and randomized study consisting of 269 patients (133 patients were in the group receiving individualized homeopathic medicines, while 136 were in the control group) found that using individualized homeopathic treatment in conjunction with modern medicine had a profound impact on COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. The result showed a reduction of symptom severity, including shortness of breath, cough, and fatigue. In adjunct with conventional medicine, homeopathy significantly lowered ICU admission (5.3% in homeopathic group v 14.6% in the non-homeopathic group). Fewer patients needed ventilation requirements (2.3% in the homeopathic group v 9.5% in the non-homeopathic group). Most significantly, the number of deaths was dramatically less (A total of 13 fatalities occurred, 1 in the homeopathic group, v 12 in the non-homeopathic group)!
ONE SIZE DOES NOT TREAT ALL
Individualization is at the heart of the homeopathic approach. Each of us is unique; people diagnosed with the same condition (in this case COVID-19) differ in how their symptom picture. Homeopathic treatment is based on the principle of therapeutic similitude; the patient’s symptoms must resemble the symptoms for which a homeopathic medicine is indicated. Individualized homeopathic treatment comprises eliciting the clinical presentations, state of pathology, individual emotional responses, past illnesses indicating comorbidity, and an assessment of the state of health prior to COVID-19, arriving at a totality of symptoms, leading to the selection of a single indicated homeopathic medicine.
COOPERATION IS BEST
The study highlights that cooperation between homeopathic medicine and conventional medicine reduces morbidity as well as severity of COVID-19 symptoms.
